Pictures and Projects

The Mohawk Woodshop curriculum begins in middle school with a six-week program for 7th graders and a full school quarter for 8th grade. Middle school students work almost exclusively with hand tools such as hand saws, coping saws, block planes, and files. Assigned projects include a tool box, a CD shelf, a treasure chest, and model cars and trucks. In addition, students who finish their assigned projects are encouraged to be creative in the design of personal "side projects".

The emphasis is on safety, basic hand tool skills, and project planning. Middle school woodshop students learn to maintain appropriate, safe behavior in the woodshop. Students also learn problem solving, teamwork, and shop stewardship.
